Total Time: 1 hr 25 min
Ingredients
- 1, 9-inch frozen pie crust with pan
- 5 medium sized apples (I personally like Gala or Red Delicious Apples)
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of softened butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup of softened butter until the mixture becomes coarse and granular.
- Set the streusel crumbs aside.
- For the apple filling mixture, core, peel and slice the apples. Use an apple corer for faster results. Put all of the apples and lemon juice in a large bowl and mix well.
- Mix in 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, the remaining 1/4 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Mix together well.
- Transfer the apple filling mixture to the pie pan.
- Then sprinkle the streusel crumbs over the top of the apple filling.
- Bake the dutch apple pie in an oven for 40 minutes, approximately when the streusel crumbs are browned and the pie is bubbly.
- Cool on a cooling rack for at least 30-45 minutes.
- (Optional) Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or caramel sauce.
